Course Description:

ELA

Some of the things that our Kindergarten students are expected to learn this school year are:

·        Recognize both upper and lowercase letters (out of order).

·        Learn all the sounds associated with each letter in the alphabet by the end of the school year.

·        Print all upper- and lower-case letters as well as their first and last name.

·        We will work on developing their fine motor skills by writing letters, names and sentences. 

·        Students will also be taught about informative, opinion, and narrative sentences.

·        Sight words, CVC words, rhyming words, beginning, middle and ending sounds.

·        The end goal for the year is to have every student reading. 

MATH

Some of the things that our Kindergarten students are expected to learn this school year are:

·        Students will learn how to count to 20 (or up to 100)

·        Recognize numbers

·        Write numbers up to 20 (or up to 100). 

·        Learn about more and less.

·        Ordinal numbers

·        Basic addition

·        Basic subtraction

·        How to create patterns.

·        Sorting groups into a category.

SCIENCE

The students will be exposed to science through ELA curriculum (Wonders).

SOCIAL STUDIES

The students will learn all about history through our Studies Weekly.

HOME WORK

The students will have homework sent home on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The students will be given a homework folder it is their responsibility to bring back the folder everyday with their homework completed. The homework folders will also include a calendar and a behavior chart. The student folders will also be a form of communication, so teachers and parents can send notes, graded papers, flyers etc. All folders need to be returned daily, this is the student’s responsibility.

My classroom rules and expectations 

• We will arrive rested and ready to learn every day.
• We will do our best work every time.
• We will use school equipment properly.
• We will wait quietly for instructions.
• We will follow directions the first time they are given.
• We will keep our hands, feet to ourselves.
• We will be a good friend.
• We will use good manners such as “please”, “thank you”, among others.
• We will use inside voices when inside the school, including the cafeteria.
• We will use walking feet when we are in the building.
• We will share.

Discipline plan

If a student breaks a rule or misbehaves they will receive a verbal correction.  The second time they have to be corrected it will be noted on their behavior chart in their folder. If the behavior continues I will make a note on the behavior chart, parents are expected to sign the behavior chart nightly.  If behavior continues I will call the parents, if we are still not making progress I will then send a note home requesting a time to meet in person so that we can come up with a productive correction plan for the student. 

My Philosophy

It is my responsibility to make sure every student in my classroom feels safe, welcomed and comfortable. These are, in my opinion; the basic needs for a positive learning environment.
